An old friend comes to Tobias for help in rescuing his mate from an abusive Alpha. As the extent of the Alpha’s crimes comes to light and the Alpha flees, Tobias sentences him to death. And he seems all too eager to carry out the sentence.
As they and their guards search for the fugitive Alpha, Kyle will do anything to ensure that the power within Tobias doesn’t take control—including becoming the Anax’s enforcer.
This book includes an on-page death in a werewolf attack, the on-page execution of a werewolf, discussions of abuse and assault, and depictions of PTSD.

Excerpt from Bring on the Broccoli:
Nervously, Quinn licked his lips. He swallowed hard and opened his eyes. “Everything’s dark ahead of us. It’s…it’s like a bruise. That kind of dark color that you don’t know if it’s purple or blue or what? It’s like that.”
A vivid description that made it all to easy to visualize what Quinn was seeing. And it sounded familiar.
“Is that what you saw on hunt night?” Tobias asked. “Kyle said you saw something related to Connor and the Berkshires wolves.”
“Sort of.” Quinn shook his head. “Not like this, exactly, but close. And that wasn’t the first time. That’s how I know what it means. The first time I saw anything similar was the night…” He took a deep breath, and his voice shook. “The night I met Belot. I didn’t know what it meant then, or I wouldn’t have gone with him. It wasn’t as dark with him as it is here, but Belot was only one person. I think this is the whole pack. Most of them, anyway.”
I reached over to rest my hand on his shoulder. The last thing the kid needed right now was a trip down traumatic memory lane. “It’s okay. I’m sorry you’re reminded of that night.”
“Yeah, it sucks.” Quinn swallowed hard and sat up straighter. “It happened, and it isn’t happening now. I’ll talk to Malachi or Suzannah about it when this is over.”
“Yes, please do.” Tobias looked away for a second. “I’m sorry I brought that back for you.”
“You don’t owe me an apology, Anax.” Quinn’s eyes widened. “Anyway, yes. On hunt night, this same color was around Connor and the trackers from Berkshires Pack. Not so much around Connor. But around them, it was really dark. Almost black. Like it is here.”
“And it means they’re hiding something?” Tobias asked.
“Deceiving,” Quinn said. “Like with Belot. He was hiding what he really wanted to do to me. I don’t know what Connor or the Berkshires guys were deceiving us about on hunt night, and I can’t tell anything about this pack other than the color. But they’re definitely hiding something. I’m sorry, Anax.” Under my hand, his shoulder trembled slightly. One of Quinn’s deepest fears was disappointing Tobias.
“You owe me no apologies either, Quinn,” Tobias said gently. “I know there’s a limit to what your colors can tell you. That isn’t your fault.”
“It’s pretty obvious what the Berkshires guys were hiding,” I said. “Jack was conspiring against us, and he’d ordered them to dispose of me.”
Tobias nodded. “And he’d compelled them not to tell me anything if I caught them. He’s used compulsion to cover up his actions for years.” His voice dropped, filling with anger. “The pack might not intentionally be deceiving us. They might be acting under his compulsion, though by now that should have stopped affecting them. But some of what Jack has done was known to some pack members. Zane or I will address that once I’ve dealt with Jack. Particularly the new Alpha. He might not have been fully aware of Jack’s actions, but that’s worse in some ways. As Beta, it was his job to be aware.”
“And to remove the Alpha when he harmed the pack.” I tried to pull together the ideas rushing through my mind. “The Beta’s job is to protect both the Alpha and the pack. If the Alpha is acting against the pack’s best interests…”
“The Beta is supposed to do something.” Tobias hesitated. “They don’t always issue a challenge, though. Kirk did his best to support Boston North’s members and went to Chal for help, but he didn’t challenge Alexander. He didn’t trust that it would be a fair fight or that he would win. And Kirk didn’t actually want to be Alpha. That’s why I got roped into it.”
“The Berkshires Beta could have done something about Jack,” I said. “Told Zane. Told you. Hell, told Justin or one of the other alphas whose territory borders Berkshires. If he didn’t want to fight Jack, there were still things he could have done.”
Tobias ran his hand over his chin. “Yes, there were. I’ll need to speak to him and his pack once this is over. Quinn, I’ll want you with me when I speak to them. You say that color was around all of them?”
Quinn nodded. “All of the ones who interrupted hunt night. And when I think about Berkshires Pack, I see that color.” He tilted his head, something dawning in his expression. “It’s less now, though. Because it’s more here.”
Seth tapped on the driver’s side window. Tobias groaned. “As much as I want to understand what you’re telling me, Quinn, I can’t keep the others standing outside any longer. We need to get where we’re going. If Jack’s anywhere in the territory, Prescott should know.” His expression hardened. “And I have a few other things to discuss with Prescott.”
There was the power-hungry ruler again. I debated calling it to his attention, but right now, I had the feeling he wouldn’t be particularly receptive.
Quinn didn’t have any such qualms. “With respect, Anax, I’m a little worried about how you’re planning to have that discussion.”
Again Tobias took a deep breath. “There’s no cause for concern, Quinn, but I appreciate you bringing it up. I’m fine.”
Are you really, though? I asked, figuring that since he hadn’t gone off on Quinn, he might not go off on me.
No. To be honest, I’m not. And Quinn can probably see it. He turned toward the front of the SUV. I’ll be okay. I’m not going to do anything irreversible to anyone other than Jack. Just…I love you, Kyle.
Then don’t leave me. I didn’t only mean literally. If he didn’t get a handle on his power, his intrinsic Tobias-ness would no longer exist.
I didn’t leave you when I was shot with a silver bullet, he said. I have no intention of it now. Don’t you leave me.
Wouldn’t dream of it.
