Jacky Douglas is a rodeo fanatic, plain and simple. He loves the ride, and he loves the cowboys. He fell hard for Frizz when they met, and theirs was a one-night stand made in heaven. When they meet again, Jacky thinks it’s a stroke of luck. Frizz takes some convincing, but once he’s on board, they begin a relationship. The fledgling romance faces a challenge when news of it travels all the way to the one place Frizz doesn’t want it to go: his parents’ bookstore.
A Daring Ride is book two in The Bullriders series, this book can be read by itself, but I’d suggest reading book one (A Wild Ride) first so that you’ll be familiar with those characters that make an appearance in this book as well. Like Jacky!
Simon Frizzell is a fledgling bull rider. He’s good at it and he loves it, but fears telling his parents. Frizzell is a household name known to many people as the moniker of a well known Christian bookstore chain. It doesn’t help his cause that his mother lost someone close to her in a bullriding accident. So when his parents learn about his ‘hobby’, they are less than pleased.
Determined to make a go of it, and just as determined to make it on his own, he lands his dream job at the ranch owned by Dante and his partner Ryan. Simon is quite surprised to find Jacky at the ranch when he arrives. Jacky is Ryan’s best friend, we met him in 'A Wild Ride' and we know he has a thing for cowboys! He and Simon met on the circuit a while back and shared a sizzling night together, a night Simon hasn’t stopped thinking about since. But Simon is anything but convinced about his sexuality. Jacky was the first person he really opened up to and as much as he wants to explore the possibilities, a life of living a different reality threatens those possibilities.
Jacky was pretty much ‘in it to win it’ after their first night together, it’s convincing Simon that will take him to task. The two begin spending more and more time together, getting to know each other and slowly falling in love. Until Simon’s parents learn his secret and his dad comes looking for answers. Will Simon be able to convince his father that loving someone is never a bad thing? Or will he have to choose between his family and Jacky?
There was a definite chemistry between the ML from the start, and Grey did a fantastic job of building on not just that chemistry, but the growing relationship throughout. One of my favorite parts in the story was at the rodeo where the washed up, has been, homophobic prick gets put in his place. And as usual Grey breaths just as much life into his secondary characters as the main two. Even through this story is all about Simon and Jacky, I think that Dante and Ryan managed to stay right in the thick of it with them.
All the things we’ve come to love from Grey are there in the print. An emotional, engrossing and sexy ride is what’s in store with this latest work from one of the best authors in the genre. Most assuredly recommend this one! But, like I said, read the first book first so that you can get to know Dante, Ryan and Jacky when they are Wild.. before they are Daring.
