In the year 2051, some people have a second pulse…Like all who have “the pulse,” Faith Daniels and Dylan Gilmore have telekinetic powers—they can move objects with their minds. But there are five “second pulses” in the world who have an even greater power: Almost nothing can harm them. They are virtually indestructible. Both Faith and Dylan have the second pulse. But the other side has second pulses, too, and they’ve been training for a war that has been brewing their entire lives. As Dylan executes a plan to infiltrate enemy grounds, he’ll have to face his only weakness, and a family secret that will threaten his very existence.Together, Faith and Dylan are the only hope this world has left, but they must go their separate ways in order to accomplish their plan. Will their love survive? With richly developed characters and heart-pounding action scenes, the second book in Patrick Carman’s Pulse trilogy continues the electrifying dystopian story of love and revenge.
In this post apocalyptic world where the psyche is your most important weapon, two young lovers known as 'pulses' are the key to our survival. An action packed thrill ride mixed with suspense, romance, lies and betrayal. Tremor will leave you anxiously awaiting the third installment in this trilogy.
Faith Daniels is not your average heroine. She is one of only a few 'second pulses' in the world. She can move objects using her mind, and communicate without speaking out loud. She is angry and fed up with her leader not being completely honest, but she is focused on her goal. To take down Clara and do whatever it takes to keep Dylan safe. Dylan Gilmore and Faith share the same gifts and an unwavering love for each other. It's their passion and need to keep each other safe that guides them, they ground each other. But, they do not play well with others. Family secrets are revealed and loyalties are tested as Faith and Dylan fight for survival.
Faith and Dylan both grow so much in this book, but it's Dylan who really stood out for me. With everything that happens to them, as much as he is tested, he stays true to himself and to Faith. The twins are absolutely aberrant, as is their mother, and I wished them all dead. Faith was so driven by anger and hatred in this story that she almost lost herself, but she came around in the end. I am completely enamored with these two characters and their love story that lies underneath the world Carman has built in the not so distant future.
This series is a must read for dystopian, sci-fi, post apocalyptic storyline fans. Action packed with a healthy dose of romance, but very little angst, which is usually ever present in YA novels. The story flows well and moves at such a fast pace, it keeps your brain straining to keep up. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for the next book. A year is just too long!
