~ David McAfee {Bachiyr series} ~
First up for the weekly reviews for August AOTM is 33 A.D. the first book in the Bachiyr series.
Jerusalem, 33 A.D. The vampires of the era have long sought to gain a foothold into Israel, but the faith of the local Jewish population has held them in check for centuries.
When one of their own betrays them to follow a young rabbi from Galilee, the elders of the vampire race send Theron, a nine hundred year old assassin, to kill them both.
The rabbi's name is Jesus. Killing him should be easy.

What if everything you thought you knew about the events that transpired in the days prior to Christs Crucifixion were wrong? Imagine, if you will, if a race of immortal beings were the ones behind one of the most prolific events in our history.
Theron is an assassin, a very old very crafty vampire that does the dirty work for the Council, the powerful rulers of a race of immortal beings, the Bachiyr. When the Council learns of a Jewish Rabbi from Galilee that is pulling more and more followers every day, they are intrigued. When they learn the rabbi is causing their people to turn and follow his divine path instead, they are incensed. They send their best assassin, Theron, to dispose of both the turn coat as well as the Rabbi. Imagine Theron's surprise when not only can he not kill the rabbi, he can't touch him without ramifications.
Theron and the Council devise a plan to turn the Romans against the Rabbi. The vampires may not be able to touch such purity, but the human man and his insatiable thrust for power fueled by greed, they certainly can. One Roman soldier doubts his orders and begins to question why the profit known as Jesus has been sentenced to death. This puts him right in the path of a very angry, very hungry immortal. And the plot only thickens from there.
I was initially drawn to this book by the cover, it is truly frightening! I was blown away by the content, McAfee’s style of writing grabs hold and pulls you in as he introduces you to his verision of Jerusalem in 33AD. Imagine True Blood meets Passion of The Christ, that is this book in a nutshell. These vampire’s do not sparkle and the sun will surely kill them. Vampires, mystery, blood and gore with just a touch of romance to soften the blow. The book is split into 4 main storylines but, I assure you, you will have no problems keeping up! Extremely interesting and unpredictable, the twists and turns will keep you engaged and on your toes.
I was born in England at the age of...um...zero, and
spent the next few years traipsing around the globe with my military family. At
age six, while living in Maryland, I wrote my first book. I even illustrated it
(poorly). It was a charming children’s book titled Tigger Meets Lady Tigger.
(At age six, I knew nothing about copyright violations, etc)
As an adult, I joined the Peace Corps, where I
single-handedly rescued a baby Yannomammo boy from a school of ravenous
piranha. At the time, I'd just wrestled a hungry jaguar (bare-handed, of
course) to the ground. I tossed the cat into the water and used the distraction
to pull out the three kids and their mother, who would otherwise have become
fish food. Once I returned the family of eight to their tiny village, their
shaman wept and made me the new chief. The old chief, a 300 pound mass of
jungle-sculpted muscle, took offense, and challenged me to one-on-one combat.
With my pride at stake, I accepted, and eventually
pinned the nine foot, eight hundred pound behemoth after locking him into a
half nelson for an hour. Once assured of victory over the twelve foot tall
former chief, I donned his raiments and took over leadership of the tribe.
Under my rule they flourished and soon became the Chilean government.
It was during this time that I discovered my talent
for embellishment, and thus began to write books. Forty of them, in fact.
Seventy-five of which made the NYT Bestseller list. With 112 NYT #1 Bestsellers
under my belt, I figured it was time to start a blog: mcafeeland.wordpress.com.
Hopefully, you will come find me out in the Wild, Wild Web.
(Did I mention that I invented the internet?)
Tams: Oh my, somebody needs put down the glass and back away slowly. Wait, then his books might not be as good. Nevermind! As you were!!
