This week I'm reviewing the first 3 books in the Sanctuary Series by @RJScott. There is also a pretty great giveaway to enter at the end of the post, as well as a 3 part Author Q&A.
Up next is Face Value...
Doctor Kayden Summers, Sanctuary operative, isn't happy about being stuck in the middle of nowhere with an unconscious man. When Beckett wakes, the situation goes from bad to worse. Beckett doesn't trust him, is as determined as ever to find the evidence his mother hid, and on top of all that, Kayden finds himself attracted to the determined young man.
Can they overcome their issues and eliminate the threat from the Bullen brothers?

Beckett Jamieson was born Robert Bullen. His mother died in a car accident when he was still a boy, her friend and attorney taking Robert, changing his name and hiding him with an adoptive family in an effort to protect the boy from his father. When Beckett turned twenty one he learned the truth about who he was and went to find his father. A decision that could cost him his life.
Kayden Summers is the black belt Ninja disguised as a Doctor that works for Sanctuary. Seriously though, while he is an accomplished physician, he is versatile in martial arts and weapons among other things, definitely able to hold his own in a fight. Right now, his time is consumed with caring for Beckett who has been nearly beaten to death by his birth father and uncle, the Bullens. Kayden has taken over as Beckett's handler, but Beckett isn't handing over control so easily, even if he is temporarily blinded from the beating he suffered at the hands of his uncle.
Beckett learns to trust Kayden before he even knows what the man looks like. A mutual admiration and attraction forms between them. But there isn't much time for courting when Sanctuary is trying to decipher the memories that are scrambled around in Beckett's brain. When the Bullen's turn someone close to Beckett and put him in harms way, Kayden puts himself in the line of fire.
The third installment in the Sanctuary series is just as thrilling and fast paced as its predecessors. The storyline is indeed another mystery to be solved, giving us another piece of the puzzle that Sanctuary is trying to complete, but adding a few curves in the road. Elisabeth's murder, Beckett's adoption when his mother was "killed", Beckett slowly remembering things about his blood family, the Bullen's. It's a nasty, tangled web the Bullen family has wove, lets just hope eventually they get stuck!
Crisden is back as narrator, yay! He was able to capture the initial pained and confused tones for Beckett, becoming more certain and confident as the story progressed slowly along with Beckett's attraction to Kayden. Then there was something different about Kayden, he was not only confident and self-assured, he was cocky, and Crisden was able to bring that to life with the tone he used for Kayden. Brilliant!
As I've said with my previous reviews for this series, you must read them in order. It is a continuation and all the stories connect, each one another piece of a larger puzzle. Definitely worth the read though, or a listen as it where.

RJ Scott has been
writing since age six, when she was made to stay in at lunchtime for an
infraction involving cookies. She was told to write a story and two sides of
paper about a trapped princess later, a lover of writing was born.
As an avid reader
herself, she can be found reading anything from thrillers to sci-fi to horror.
However, her first real true love will always be the world of romance where she
takes cowboys, bodyguards, firemen and billionaires (to name a few) and writes
dramatic and romantic stories of love and passion between these men.
With over seventy
titles to her name and counting, she is the author of the award winning book,
The Christmas Throwaway. She is also known for the Texas series charting the
lives of Riley and Jack, and the Sanctuary series following the work of the
Sanctuary Foundation and the people it protects.
Her goal is to write
stories with a heart of romance, a troubled road to reach happiness, and most
importantly, that hint of a happily ever after.
Q&A with RJ Scott Part three...
Describe the perfect
writing space.
I’d love a place on a cliff top overlooking the sea! But
what I do have is a converted dining room, with posters of my covers on my
wall, and a nice big computer. I also have a specific shelf on the desk just
for my print books – it’s inspiring to see those. All I ask for is peace, and I
have very good headphones and listen to music when I write. It has to be music
I am really familiar with so that it fades into the background.
Do you do research
for your books? If so, what does that entail?
Yes, absolutely I research, and the internet is a wonderful
thing. I also ask readers for their comments if I need specific help. I will
put a call out to *Nurses* or *Lawyers* on my Facebook. I collect photos and
articles and essays and find websites with interesting information. I love
research.
How many books have
you written? Which is your favorite?
Oh my goodness. Over 90 now I think. I say *I think* because I had a time
when I was writing and re-releasing. My favourite book? That is difficult, for
all that this seems weird, my favourite book is the one that I am writing when
I’m asked! Other people tell me they love The Christmas Throwaway, The Heart Of
Texas, Guarding Morgan (Sanctuary 1), and New York Christmas. I owe a lot to
The Christmas Throwaway and my Texas series!
Do you hear from your
readers much? What do they say?
All the time. I love interacting with my readers. I have
such lovely emails. I answer every single email myself, and love hearing from
readers. They say some really nice things about my stories and writing, and
every single email means so much to me.
To add to this, I have met RJ myself and worked with her this past year for the TTC Books and more annual Autism Auction I host. She is kind, amazing and very generous!
