Carlos Mendez spends all year working hard at his Houston-based landscaping business, and he sends every spare penny he earns back to his family in Mexico. By the time the holidays roll around, he doesn’t have much patience for the unadulterated greed and consumerism paraded past him. But a chance meeting with his neighbor, Ned Williams, and Ned’s cancer-stricken daughter, might help to remind him of the real meaning of the season—something beyond the gaudy lights and extravagant displays—something he wants to be a part of.

Cat gives this one 4 Meows...
Carlos isn't into Christmas. He spends most of his hard earned money sending what he has left home to his family in Mexico. He is a landscaper but in winter to make money he decorates. He isn't a Scrooge he just isn't into commercial. He has tree other families that he is close to. He visits them the day before Christmas Eve to deliver bonus plus a small gift to each child.
Arriving home one night, he notices the neighbors balcony decorated with a popcorn garland. He knows this will cause a bird. Bug or rodent issue and cause the tenant problems with the landlord, so he goes over to mention it nicely. He is faced with a man wth a daughter that has cancer.
Popcorn Garlands such a beautiful story. I think this one should be made into a Hallmark movie. I know I'd watch it. I loved all the character. The storyline and the Christmas spirit that is so widespread in this story. I wish everyone would read this, take it to heart and be the way these people are. Thus story evokes love and a genuine meaning of Christmas.
The only think That I believe would make it perfect would have been a romance between Carlos and his neighbor. But I would love to see more of this story!
