Honor and Pride
Guarding the Gods book 2
by best selling Author Ann Lister
Fizzbo is used to taking care of people. He’s the one in charge of the personal and professional security needs for both world-famous rock bands, Ivory Tower and Black Ice. Having their backs is what he does best, and he takes pride in that, both on and off the job. When he’s called into action to save the man he loves, all of his skills are put to the test. Suddenly, he isn't so sure his training will be enough, but saving Kensey is personal, and he’s willing do anything to keep him safe.
Kensey Pride is the man who rocked Fizzbo's world when they met during the European tour with Ivory Tower and Black Ice. Kensey's passion for his job, making people look and feel beautiful in their own skin, is something he lacks in his own life until the magnetism of a certain security guard comes along and breaks down the walls he's built around his heart to keep him safe. For the first time in his life, Kensey discovers he likes who he sees looking back at him in the mirror.
Without the safety of those walls and his heart left unprotected, Kensey becomes an easy target for those who can't let go of the past. Will Fizzbo's strength and love be enough to bring Kensey home, or will old truths be too much for the guard to handle?

Finally! Fizzbo gets his story. Been waiting for this book for a very long time, so lets begin, shall we. If you've been reading Lister's books since the Rock Gods series, then you know who Fizzbo is and what he's been through. You also know that the fire the guys survived weren't the only sparks flying on that tour. Let me start by saying the only thing about this book I didn't care for is Fizzbo's nickname. His name is actually Nick, so hence forth, I will refer to him as such since the name Fizzbo makes me shudder and not in a good way. Nick set his sights on Kensey, the bands makeup artist, while on tour and now that everyone is back home and moving past the incident while on tour, Nick wants to make his fantasy a reality. Kens is hesitant though and as the book progresses, you learn why. This poor kid has been through it, let me just say, and Nick really is perfect for him. He's big, strong, smart and caring. But he's not so big and strong that he can't admit when he's wrong, can't bend and go with the flow and know when his lover needs him to be soft and gentle. The darkness of Kensey's past looms over them from the start like a storm on the horizon. When it hits, it's not certain if they'll make it out alive, much less together. I have to say, I didn't think of Nick the way he's described in this book. Of course since he's always been a more secondary character, his physical description was never fully explored. He's a real badass if I'm being honest, but lord when he has Kensey in his arms, he's a gentle giant. Kensey fears being more than friends with Nick for several reasons, one being opening up about his painful past with anyone, fear of getting hurt if he lets his guard down and cares for anyone but he seems to somewhat fear Nick's size and demeanor briefly. This is part of why Nick being the way he is with Kensey makes these two so damned sexy and adorable. The relationship tethers on a thin line at the start for reasons I've already stated, slowly moving on to something more stable and concrete. There was action, suspense, intrigue and a whole hell of a lot of passion with these two. I loved how romantic Nick turned out to be, it was exactly what Kensey needed. I can't wait for the next book in this series! |
