Praise for THE ROYAL ORDER OF FIGHTING DRAGONS
"…a fast-paced, entertaining story with appealing characters, a healthy dose of action, and a dash of humor." ―Publishers Weekly
Born to... Fight?
Ike Rupert Hollingsberry is haunted by the past because complete strangers won’t let him forget that his famous father died on the set of The Fighting Dragons, a cult favorite that still has people talking. But when he’s attacked by a large locust, like the one that killed his dad, Ike is helped by the geekiest nerd of all, Elmira Hand. Killing the giant locust is only the beginning of the surprises in store for Ike as he is whisked away from New York City to an isolated Florida compound to assume his role as the next in line to lead the Royal Order of Fighting Dragons—that are NOT supposed to exist—and learns his dad’s death was a cover-up for a far greater purpose…

Q&A
Where are
you from, and where do you call home?
I grew up in Washington DC until I was ten when my family moved to New York
City. With the exception of four years at college, that’s where I have lived
ever since.
What inspired you to start writing?
I was first inspired to write by a love of musical theater. When I was a senior
in highschool I decided that I wanted to write musicals which I did in college.
But in my early twenties, I re-read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. That one
book inspired me to try writing kids’ novels.
How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing since college which is thirty-five years
now!
What advice would you give a new writer just starting out?
What advice would you give a new writer just starting out?
The main advice is to go for it. Sit down five days a week and
write. Have confidence in your idea and your ability to write something good.
Then let that confidence get you to your desk or wherever it is you like to
write and get to work. You don’t have to write much every day – even a couple
of pages a day will add up quickly. Good luck!
Are you working on anything at the present you would like to tell us about?
Well, I just finished a sequel to THE ROYAL ORDER OF FIGHTING
DRAGONS called The SLAVE OF TIME. In it, Ike Hollingsberry and his friends go
back in time to King Arthur’s Court to fight the villain, Theodore Opal, and
also to rescue Ike’s Dad.
Describe the perfect writing space.
Describe the perfect writing space.
A log cabin in Vermont with a well-stocked refrigerator and a good
view by my writing desk. I need to take lots of breaks when I write. I love
taking long walks through the woods (which can be hard living in New York
City!) so a cabin in Vermont could be nice.
How many
books have you written? Which is your favorite?
I’ve
written ten novels and my favorite is probably my first, THE WORLDWIDE DESSERT
CONTEST. My favorite character is named Captain B. Rollie Ragoon, a dessert
genius who speaks only in rhyme. But in all honesty, I like all my books.
