There's never been any
question in Sean Tucker's mind that he'd do whatever it took to make it to the
major leagues and be one of the best pitchers of his time. The day he
acknowledged to himself that he was gay was also the day he vowed to stay in
the closet in order to chase his dreams. The problem is, he never counted on
Mason Atley.
Sean showed rookie short
stop Mason Atley the ropes, both on the field and off. The two forged a
friendship, which continued as both of them moved through the ranks of the farm
system and into the majors. Unfortunately, there's always been one secret Mason
never felt he could share with Sean - until now.
For seven years, Sean
lived with the fact that he loved a man who would never reciprocate. When Mason
admits that he's always known he was bisexual but has never allowed himself to
pursue a relationship with a man, will Sean be able to put aside his
reservations about starting a relationship with the friend he'd always assumed
was straight? And, more importantly, will they be able to find a way to stay
together when their careers keep them apart more than they can be together?

Wild Pitch is a good
baseball romance. Sean is a pitcher in the major leagues. One of the two things
he has always dreamed of and gotten. The other was Mason, his straight best
friend. This dream was out of his reach or so he thought.
Mason has always had
feelings for Sean, but he didn’t know how deep.
I liked the slow burn and
friend’s to lover’s aspect of this story. I did wonder what team Mason played
on and if they were on different teams why they lived in the same town, but I really
don’t know much about baseball so I didn’t let that bother me so much and read
for the romance which I liked.
I listened to this on
audio and will admit I had likes and dislikes on this narrator. I did like
Mason’s deep gravelly voice and Sean’s gentler one so I could tell them apart. I
did not like the actual narration. It felt like a read, the pacing wasn’t good,
and it was very choppy. But if you are looking for a hands-free way to read the
book while doing other things it is ok.
Sloan Johnson is a
zamboni-driving, hockey-loving parent of two kids who are pretty okay most of
the time. When they were three, their parents received a call from the
principal asking them to pick Sloan up from school. Apparently, if you aren’t
enrolled, you can’t attend classes, even in Kindergarten. The next week, they
were in preschool and started plotting their first story soon after. Later in
life, their parents needed to do something to help the socially awkward,
uncoordinated child come out of their shell and figured there was no better
place than a bar on Wednesday nights. It’s a good thing they did because this
is where they found their love of reading and writing. Who needs socialization
when you can sit alone in your bedroom with a good book? Sloan’s been kicked
out of the PTA in three school districts and is no longer asked to help with
fundraisers because they’ve been known get lost in a good book and forget they
have somewhere to be.
