Cat gives this Book 4 meows with a 3 purr heat index...
This is book 1 of a new series. It's a kind of spinoff of Portland Evergreens, but I think it's fine as a standalone. However, Ethan does spend some time still as an Evergreen and in the Portland college and some characters recur from there.
Most of the series though is in New York, and a bit in Syracuse as Hank bounces back and forth a little bit.
A few things I like about the series...the characters. Beth does such good characters. Another thing the family bond especially the Barnes brothers. I like that its great but not perfect. Very realistic with the love and slight jealousy.
I also like the romance especially since Ethan is 19. I like that he and Hank form a tight friendship and both not having been with a man before take it slow. There is spice but starts with making out then works its way up and not just boom in the sack and its easy and fabulous.
I guess you can say I love the realism of this book.
Its a great start to a new series.
And there's lots and lots of detailed hockey action and comradarie.
The only thing I think I'd liked more of was conflict.
A lifelong Pacific Northwester, Beth Bolden has just recently moved to North Carolina with her supportive husband. Beth still believes in Keeping Portland Weird, and intends to be just as weird in Raleigh.
Beth has been writing practically since she learned the alphabet. Unfortunately, her first foray into novel writing, titled Big Bear with Sparkly Earrings, wasn’t a bestseller, but hope springs eternal. She has published over forty novels and novellas.
